Cleanable Pallets: A Pharmaceutical Industry Dream

The plastic pallets used to ship and store goods all across the nation have a variety of characteristics to suit the needs of the industry utilizing them. The pharmaceutical industry has some of the highest standards for plastic pallet quality because of the nature of their product. When dealing with chemical compounds that will be ingested by humans, every precaution must be taken to ensure that the medications remain in the exact same state as when they left a pharmaceutical laboratory. That means that purchasing easily cleanable pallets is the obvious choice for this and any other sanitary focused industry.

There are many elements involved in the design of cleanable pallets that make them so easy to keep sanitary. One of the first elements is the material. Generally speaking any plastic material will be resistant to bacteria, insects and mold, making it instantly more sanitary then wooden pallets. However, certain thermoplastics are particularly well suited to cleanable pallet models, such as high density polyethylene and high density polypropylene. Another aspect of the easy-to-clean characteristic is the design of the pallet, how each piece is spaced for maximum strength as well as maximum flow space. Designing a plastic pallet with space for run-off while retaining the core structure to support massive amounts of weight makes a pallet a cleanable pallet indeed.

Between a smooth and corrosion resistant material and a design that keeps debris, powder and liquid build-up to a minimum, a cleanable pallet doesn’t need much else to stay sanitary. The design and material makes spraying them off and scrubbing them down take mere minutes, while drying systems range from conveyor drying systems to letting them air dry. None of the ways a company utilizing cleanable pallets, especially an industry as particular about sanitation as the pharmaceutical industry, cleans them will damage the surface.
